KING OF THE CHARTS!

The legend could be in with a shot for the 1,000th too…

Elvis Presley looks set to score his 19th UK chart topper on Sunday (January 9) – putting him in the running for the 1000th Number One ever.

The re-release of classic track ‘Jailhouse Rock’ outsold the current Number One by ‘X Factor’ winner Steve Brookstein by more than 2,000 records yesterday (January 4). The song first topped the charts in 1958.

If the song hits Number One it will be the 999th in the chart’s history.

The re-release is part of a campaign by record label SonyBMG which has been labelled “the most ambitious singles release campaign in the history of the UK record industry”. It sees the single followed by the release of ‘One Night’ next week, and then ‘Fool Such As I’ the subsequent week, reports the BBC.

Chart analysts believe that the campaign could mean Elvis Presley is at the top the week the charts celebrate it’s 1000th Number One ever.
