Emeli Sande overtakes Adele as best selling album of 2012

Olympics appearances boost sales of Sande's 'Our Version Of Events'

Emeli Sande has overtaken Adele as the best selling artist of 2012.

Appearing at both the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies has helped boost sales of her debut album ‘Our Version Of Events’ by a third, according to the Official Charts Company. This Sunday (August 26), it started its fifth week at the top of the UK album charts.

Sande has now sold 3,200 more copies so far this year than Adele’s record-breaking ’21’, which was released in February last year. ‘Our Version Of Events’ has sold 660,000 copies since its release at the end of February.

Emeli Sande performed at both Danny Boyle’s Olympics opening ceremony – where she sang a rendition of ‘Abide With Me’, and at the closing ceremony. The opening ceremony alone was watched by over 20 million people in the UK.

However, Sande, whose actual first name is also Adele, has a significant way to go before she eclipses ’21’, which has sold 4.4 million copies in the UK alone and is the fifith biggest selling album of all time.
