Eminem, Mumford & Sons, Lady Gaga dominate Billboard Music Awards 2011

U2, Beyonce and Neil Diamond also walk away with prizes

Eminem dominated this year’s Billboard Music Awards, scoring six prizes including the award for Top Male Artist at the Las Vegas ceremony last night (May 22).

The rapper also picked up Top Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Song and Top Rap Album honours at the MGM Grand Garden Arena ceremony.

Justin Bieber walked away with half a dozen awards, while Mumford and Sons scored a trio of prizes for Top Alternative Artist, Top Rock Album and Top Alternative Album for their 2009 debut ‘Sigh No More’.

Lady Gaga and Rihanna walked away with three prizes each while Beyonce, Neil Diamond and U2 were honoured with a special prize each. US First Lady Michelle Obama, Stevie Wonder and Barbra Streisand paid a special tribute to Beyonce for her Millennium Award.

The awards were determined by a combination of chart performances and social and streaming activity as chronicled in Billboard magazine and on Billboard.com. The event was last held in 2007.
