Mitchusson reveals video was made for 2014 music festival as it passes 1.5m views
Shelby Mitchusson, whose sign language video for Eminem‘s ‘Lose Yourself’ went viral this week, has thanked the hundreds of thousands of people who have watched the video.
Mitchusson uploaded the video eight months ago as she applied to work with the ASL (American Sign Language) team at Austin City Limits. However, the video went viral this week and now has over 1.5m views.
Taking the opportunity to address the unexpected success of her video, which sees Mitchusson passionately sign the lyrics to the Eminem hit, she said the video was uploaded “purely for interpreting.”
“I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has shared my video and thank you for taking the time to watch it. I have to say, I did not upload it for entertainment purposes,” Mitchusson wrote on Facebook.
“Actually it was my interpreter application submission video to work with an amazing interpreting team at Austin City Limits 2014,” she continued. “I got the gig and still my heart flutters with how well our team worked together equally and the fact that finally these companies are opening their eyes to the true hidden gem talent of Deaf performers & Deaf people signing music– which we NEED to see more of!”
Meanwhile, Eminem recently previewed new music in the trailer for new boxing film Southpaw. The trailer features a previously unheard track by Eminem in which he can be heard rapping “Forget me now“. The trailer can be seen here.
Eminem recently starred alongside Dr Dre and 50 Cent in a feature-length documentary on the Shady Records label.
