US presidential candidate Ben Carson launches campaign with gospel cover of Eminem song – watch

Retired pediatric neurosurgeon shares a hometown with Eminem

Ben Carson launched his bid to become the next president of the United States by recruiting a gospel choir to perform Eminem‘s ‘Lose Yourself’. Watch video footage of the moment below, now.

Carson’s hometown is Detroit, the same as Eminem, and the Republican candidate is seeking the GOP’s nomination ahead of the election in 2016. A retired pediatric neurosurgeon, Carson is the party’s first black candidate for next year’s election. With little political history, Carson is better known as having performed the first successful separation of twins conjoined at the head.

Speaking earlier this year, Carson discredited hip-hop and appeared to blame the genre for the deterioration of modern society.

“We need to reestablish faith in our communities and the values and principles that got us through slavery, that got us through Jim Crow, and segregation, and all kinds of horrible things that were heaped upon us,” Carson told an audience in Detroit Music Hall.

He added: “Why were we able to get through those? Because of our faith, because of our family, because of our values, and as we allow the hip-hop community to destroy those things for us, and as we grasp onto what’s politically correct and not what is correct, we continue to deteriorate.”

Carson is the fourth potential Republican candidate for the presidency, following similar delarations from Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio.
