Eminem played a surprise show in Michigan last weekend in front of 1,700 happy students at Michigan State University.

The star, joined by D12, took to the stage at the Auditorium on the University campus on Friday (October 11) following a screening of his forthcoming feature ‘8 Mile’.

Eminem, dressed in oversize white T-shirt and baggy jeans and wearing a yellow baseball cap, kicked off his 45 minute set with ‘Lose Yourself’, a track written for the film. His hits set also included current single ‘Cleanin’ Out My Closet’ local website Lansing State Journal reports.

Speculation that Eminem would make an appearance at the preview had been racing around the University all week. Some students queued for nearly eight hours on Friday hoping to catch a glimpse.

His appearance had looked unlikely right up until the moment he stepped onstage. “Rumors have a way of taking on lives of their own,” a spokesperson for Universal Films told the crowd before the ‘8 Mile’ screening. “Eminem isn’t here. In fact, he’s in the studio finishing up the soundtrack for the film right now.”

The show was put together by Residence Halls Association at MSU, Universal and MTV. The performance was filmed for MTV and will be screened on MTV Jams in the US on November 6.
