The rapper's lawyer says UK appearances will not be in jeopardy - and Eminem might want to stay for good!...
EMINEM‘s lawyer has told NME.COM that his probation sentence will not stop him coming to the UK for festival appearances this year.
As previously reported, the rapper – who was last week sentenced to two years’ probation and ordered to pay $8000 in fines and court costs at Macomb County Court in Michigan after pleading guilty to carrying a concealed weapon – is in the running to headline Carling Weekend Festival at Reading and Leeds on August 24 – 26, and is additionally thought to be poised to join the Glasgow Green bill the same weekend.
While organisers have not yet confirmed his appearance, it is believed that he is in line to receive a fee of between £2 million and £3 million if he does perform.
Under the terms of his probation, Eminem will have to obtain permission from the Court before he can travel abroad to work.
However, his lawyer Walter Piszczatowski told NME.COM: “I don’t think there’s going to be any issue at all about Eminemnot being able to leave the country. The judge has indicated that he doesn’t want to get in the way of Eminem‘s career. He just wants to know how long he will be away and where.”
Asked about about whether the judge’s order will limit Eminem‘s performance, such as the pretend taking of Ecstasy, Piszczatowski said: “I think the key word is ‘pretend’. There is obviously some art to the performance, but I don’t know if he is still going to do that on stage.”
Eminem is due back in court next week (April 23) at Oakland County, accused of carrying a concealed weapon and brandishing a firearm in public during a confrontation with an employee of the Insane Clown Posse‘s
record label. Oakland County prosecutors have said they would not request jail time.
“That is what we hope, we don’t know what will transpire,” Piszczatowski told NME.COM. “He is happy that this stage of it is over.”
Meanwhile, Eminem has revealed that he would like to move to the UK and plans to scout for property if he is over for Reading festival.
“I loved Britain and all in all spent a lot of time there last year. I could be coming over for the Reading Festival in August but that’s still to be confirmed. There’s still some contract issues outstanding so it’s kind of a case of watch this space.
“But I plan to look for an apartment while I’m over but don’t know what area to look in at the moment. I have people scouting for me so I’ll choose while I’m there.”
Answering questions posed by readers of UK tabloid News Of The World, Eminem said: “I just wanna forget about the case and concentrate on looking after my daughter Haillie It’s been a nightmare and I just want to put it all behind me.”
He added that he will shortly be going into the studio to start work on his new album which will have “a new sound,” but would not reveal what it would be describing it as a “trade secret”.
He added that whether or not he will accept an offer to appear in the movie ‘The Crow 4’ will depend on his schedule. “Everything is in it’s early stages yet and my main priority is my daughter and my music.”
