After weeks of almost constant headline-grabbing thanks to numerous court cases, Eminem has rocketed into the UK singles chart at Number One with ‘THE REAL SLIM SHADY’.
Marshall Mathers bumped close-run competition Samantha Mumba into the Number Two slot. The Irish babe’s single ‘Gotta Tell You’was reportedly outselling Eminem earlier in the week, and speaking on Radio One just hours before the chart was announced she declared her admiration for Eminem, reckoning his sense of humour regarding his comments about girl pop singers such as Britney Spears was often overlooked.
Both songs nudged Kylie Minogue into the number three slot with her storming disco-diva comeback single ‘Coming Around’, which even a sassy stint as co-host at the weekend’s Mardi Gras gay festival in London wasn’t enough to keep at the top spot.
Coldplay, who were championed by NME and toured on the Carling Premier Tour bill earlier this year, made a triumphant chart debut at Number Four with their single ‘Yellow’. There were a total of 13 new entries on the chart last night (July 2).
