Troubled rapper Eminem pleaded not guilty to charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon in WARREN, MICHIGAN yesterday (June 7).
As was expected, Eminem turned himself in to Warren Police on Wednesday afternoon (June 7) to face charges relating to a brawl outside the Hot Rocks Cafe in Warren. Eminem, his wife Kim Scott, and two others were arrested during the early hours of June 4. It is alleged that Eminem saw his wife Kim kissing a companion, and a fight broke out. In the struggle that followed a gun fell to the ground, which alerted nightclub bouncers to call the police.
Yesterday he made an appearance in the dock at the 37th District Court in Warren, dressed in a dark suit with his wrists handcuffed – standard procedure in the US.
Eminem spoke only to confirm he understood the charges against him, and plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf. He was then released on a $100,000 bond.
Speaking to the Detroit Free Press following the hearing, Eminem‘s lawyer said: “Eminem is looking forward to getting this matter behind him and getting back to what he does best, making records and entertaining crowds.”
Eminem‘s wife Kim Scott is also quoted in the Detroit Free Press, saying the rapper’s suspicions of infidelity are wrong. She said: “I don’t think anybody in their right mind would cheat on a millionaire husband – especially with a nobody in a neighbourhood bar…the fact that he just jumped to conclusions has gotten him and myself into a lot of trouble.”
If found guilty of the charges against him, the rapper could face between five and nine years in jail. However, as Eminem has no previous criminal record, it is expected he would receive a much shorter sentence.
