EMINEM’s new single ‘THE WAY I AM’ will be released on October 2 through AFTERMATH/INTERSCOPE, nme.com can confirm.
‘The Way I Am’ is the second single to be taken from Eminem’s latest album ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’ and features a new track, ‘Bad Influence’ as well as ‘My Fault (Pizza Mix)’ – a ‘cleaned-up’ version of a track from Eminem’s first album ‘The Slim Shady LP’.
Marilyn Manson makes a cameo appearance in the video for ‘The Way I Am’ and is also namechecked in the song. The second verse of the song goes: “When a dude’s gettin bullied and shoots up his school/They blame it on Marilyn, on Marilyn/And the heroin”.
Meanwhile, Eminem has taken the first step towards sorting out his ongoing legal problems.
The rapper has settled the $10 million lawsuit filed last week by his estranged wife Kim Mathers. In Macomb County Court on Monday (August 28) he agreed to give her full “physical custody” of their four-year old daughter Hailie Jade, while he will maintain “liberal visitation rights”. As well as an undisclosed figure in settlement he has restored all Mathers‘ credit cards and the use of her personal driver.
Kim Mathers had launched the action against her superstar husband in response to perceived images of “horrific domestic violence against his wife” (in tracks such as ‘Kim’) and because his stage act on the recent ‘Up In Smoke’ Tour had “included violent and vile acts directed toward and effigy of the wife, in the presence of several thousand concert attendees”.
However, Eminem’s legal woes are by no means at at end. They continue tomorrow (August 31) when he appears in court to face preliminary assault and weapons charges stemming from a June 4 incident outside a Michigan nightclub. Eminem is alleged to have pistol-whipped a man he saw kissing his wife in the club’s car-park in Warren, Michigan. It was this incident which is said to have finally ended their year-old marriage.
The adverse publicity does seem to have aided a move for Eminem onto the silver screen.
According to film industry bible ‘Variety’, the star is being lined up to play a villan in a new Denzel Washington starring film ‘Training Day’. In the picture, Washington is set to play a Los Angeles policeman teaching a rookie the ropes. Ethan Hawke’s name has been mooted as another possible co-star, though no further details are available.
