Beyoncé leads the pack with eight nominations

Beyoncé leads the nominations at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards with a total of eight, followed by Eminem and Iggy Azalea, who have both received seven nods.

Beyoncé and Azalea are both nominated in the coveted video of the year category, for ‘Drunk In Love’ and ‘Fancy’ respectively, and are joined by Sia, Miley Cyrus and Pharrell who complete the nominees. Beyoncé’s ‘Pretty Hurts’ and ‘Partition’ are also up for awards, and could help the singer take home multiple prizes on the night, including best female and best choreography.

Eminem and Rihanna‘s collaboration ‘Monster,’ taken from his 2013 album ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2,’ has been nominated for a variety of awards including best male video, while the rapper has also received nods for his tracks ‘Bezerk’ and ‘Rap God’.

Those nominated in the best rock video category are Linkin Park with ‘Until It’s Gone’, Imagine Dragons with ‘Demons’, Arctic Monkeys with ‘Do I Wanna Know,’ The Black Keys with ‘Fever’ and Lorde with ‘Royals’.

Among the acts confirmed to be performing at the event next month are Eminem and Rihanna, who will take to the stage to perform their two-time nominated track ‘The Monster’ for the first time, ahead of embarking on their joint US tour. Zedd and Ellie Goulding are also set to perform at the event.

The 2014 VMA Awards will air August 24 from California.
