BOB THE BUILDER has hammered EMINEM’s ‘STAN’ into the Number Two slot on this week’s UK chart.
The cartoon handyman, whose ‘Can We Fix It’? last week entered the charts at Number Two, tailing ‘Stan’ at Number One, proved to be the Christmas shoppers’ favourite, and 190,000 sales shunted him into top slot.
And according to the Star newspaper, a surge of support from the gay community also helped Bob get to Number One. They quote a source at Boyz gay magazine as saying: “Gay men have a thing for men in builders’ clothes and boots. You only have to look back at the Village People. One of them dressed as a labourer.”
Robbie Williams’ latest single ‘Supreme’ only made it to Number Four, with S Club 7 holding on to the Number Three position from last week.
Other new entries included Kylie Minogue at Number 10 with ‘Please Stay’. Big Brother winner Craig reached Number 14 with ‘At This Time of Year’. Other new entries were ‘Storm Animal’ by Storm at Number 21, ‘Walk Of Life’ by Billie Piper at Number 25 and a Number 27 entry for Green Day’s ‘Warning’.
In the album chart, The Beatles’ ‘1’ held the top spot for another week, as predicted while Westlife’s Coast To Coast held on at Number Three in a week which saw no new entries in the album Top 40 at all.
Meanwhile, hoax claims that EMINEM died in a car crash at the weekend have been dismissed by the rapper as “very funny”.
Reports were circulating at the weekend that Slim Shady had been killed in a car crash, and an email was received by NME.COM saying: “Eminem was apparently killed in a car crash last night.”
But a spokesperson for him has commented: “Eminem is not dead. He is alive and well in America at the moment and finds the whole thing very funny.”
Meanwhile Bob The Builderhas come under fire from Irish pop heart-throbs Westlife, who will be doing battle with the dungaree-clad kiddies favourite for the coveted Christmas Number One position.
Westlife release their new single ?What Makes A Man? today (December 18) and are aiming for a seventh consecutive new entry at Number One in a row. The group ? who are currently bookies? favourites to take the Christmas Number One next Sunday (December 24) – appeared at G.A.Y. club in London at the weekend and Kian held up a T-shirt with the legend Bob The W**ker.
