Eminem joined on stage by Dr Dre as he makes history at London’s Wembley Stadium – watch

Rapper plays first of two massive British shows

Eminem was joined by Dr Dre for a rare live performance during his headline show at Wembley Stadium in London earlier tonight (July 11). Watch fan-shot footage above, now.

The rapper played the first of two huge gigs in Britain with support earlier in the evening provided by Danny Brown and Odd Future. Taking to the stage shortly before 9:30PM, Eminem was preceded by a video filling the audience in on the rapper’s back story from his early days in Detroit through to his troubled relationship with his family and more recent drug addiction and rehab.

Opening with ‘Bad Guy’, Eminem was joined by hype man Mr Porter who made reference to the historic nature of the gig and how it was the first rap gig to ever take place at Wembley Stadium.

Performing in front of a video backdrop showing a boombox, Eminem wore three-quarter length black trousers and a black t-shirt with an ice hockey mask in Union Jack colours on the front. The opening section of the set focused on Eminem’s more recent material including ‘Square Dance’ and ‘3AM.’

“Let me take a minute to look at the crowd,” said Eminem. “God damn, we missed you.” Eminem’s last UK performance came in August 2013 when he headlined the Reading & Leeds Festivals.

Backed by a full band, songs such as ‘The Way I Am’ ended with an extended guitar solo. Meanwhile, the rapper’s drum skin was adorned by an image of a middle finger raised in the air. This was matched by red foam fingers held by audience members.

Dr Dre’s appearance came after a performance of Eminem’s 1999 collaboration with Notorious B.I.G., ‘Dead Wrong’.
Arriving on stage to the sound of ‘The Next Episode’, the rapper turned Beats Electronics entrepreneur then played ‘Still Dre, ‘Nuthin’ But A G Thang’ and ‘Forgot About Dre’ before promptly leaving the stage.

Despite being joined by his mentor, Eminem did not bring out any more guests. This meant anyone expecting to see Rihanna on either ‘The Monster’ or ‘Love The Way You Lie’ were left disappointed. However, Eminem did dedicate the former to “Ladies of London.” Simialrly, Dido remained absent during ‘Stan.’

During a rare moment of acknowledging the huge audience, Eminem asked: “How many of y’all motherfuckers here are fucked up? And how many are just fucked up mentally?” Both questions were greeted by cheers from the fans. “Let’s do some of the shit from when I used to get fucked up.”

The latter part of Eminem’s first night at Wembley then saw the rapper focus on his biggest hits, playing a medley of ‘My Name Is’, ‘The Real Slim Shady’ and ‘Without Me’ as well as ‘Sing For The Moment’, ‘Like Toy Soldiers’ and ‘Not Afraid.’

As per usual at Eminem gigs, the show ended with Eminem uniting the sell-out audience for a rendition of ‘Lose Yourself.’
