Erykah Badu finally responds to Kendrick Lamar namedrop on ‘No More Parties in L.A.’

The singer dismissed rumours of romance with Lamar on Twitter earlier today

Erykah Badu has spoken about a reference to her on a Kendrick Lamar guest verse that prompted speculation of romance between the two stars.

Lamar namedropped Badu in a line on Kanye West’s ‘No More Parties In L.A.’, rapping: “Um, well cutie, I like your bougie bootie/Come Erykah Badu me/Hell, let’s make a movie”.

Some fans interpreted the reference as a possible hint that the Compton rapper was briefly one of Badu’s love interests. Others suggested that Lamar was in fact alluding to a meme about Badu’s exes.

Badu firmly denied the rumours, writing on Twitter earlier today (July 4) that “Kendrick aint called me since y’all made up some shit about us being in the trailer makin out so he missed his award”.

The two met for the first only time at the 2013 BET Awards. “Sound check, performance , photo opps, ghost. He was super shy,” said Badu of their meeting.

Badu’s explanation wasn’t enough for one Twitter user who accused her of lying. The singer responded, characteristically, by schooling the follower with some of her wisdom:

The pair might well have crossed paths again at last month’s BET Awards, where Badu performed a Prince tribute together with The Roots (watch below).
