Eugene McGuinness played a frenetic live show in London last night (February 10), continuing his tradition of playing a punk-era cover at his shows in the capital.
Following on from Klaxons last week, the Liverpool singer-songwriter played the White Heat club night at Soho strip bar Madame JoJos, on a bill that also included newcomers We Were Promised Jetpacks.
As well as playing current single ‘Fonz’ and ‘Moscow State Circus’, McGuinness also played a version of the Ramones‘ ‘Judy Is A Punk’, which following his rendition of Elvis Costello‘s ‘Pump It Up’ at a pre-Christmas show in Clerkenwell, continued his tradition of playing a ’70s classic at his London shows.
“I just really adore ‘Judy Is A Punk’,” McGuinness told NME.COM afterwards. “The Ramones are a bit of an obsession at the moment, we were a bit worried it was going to be a bit shit but we nailed it, I reckon.
He added: “It was our best gig in ages.”
