FATBOY SLIM’S 1999 number one UK hit ‘Praise You’ is being used to soundtrack presidential candidate AL GORE’S bid to win the US elections.
The Democrat candidate is married to Tipper Gore, who formed the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), a pro-censorship pressure group which was instrumental in forcing the RIAA (Record Industry Association of America) to put ‘Parental Advisory’ stickers on records the PMRC deemed offensive or contained bad language – eg Fatboy Slim’s ‘Fucking In Heaven’ track from last album ‘You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby’.
The ‘Parental Advisory’ stickers are meant to prevent any minors buying records that moral watchdogs like the PMRC deem to be unsuitable.
But Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook, isn’t concerned about Gore’s connections.
He told nme.com: “It seems to have become the anthem of the soft left. Thank God it wasn’t the Republicans.”
A spokesperson for Fatboy added: “They’re certainly not using it for any commercial ends, so I think it’s OK.”
Al Gore is currently Bill Clinton’s vice-president and faces opposition in the election from Republican George W. Bush Jnr.
The presidential elections are slated to take place in November.
