Fatboy Slim, LEE ‘SCRATCH’ PERRY, Bentley Rhythm Ace, FLAVOR FLAV, HORACE ANDY, GABRIELLE, BEENIE MAN, TALVIN SINGH and LO-FIDELITY ALLSTARS have been added to the bill of this year’s Essential Dance Weekender to be held at Stanmer Park, Brighton on July 15 & 16.

They join Godfather of Soul James Brown on a bill which also features DJs Laurent Garnier, Grooverider, Tim Westwood, Judge Jules and Erik Morillo, R&B artists Angie Stone, Lynden David Hall and Jamelia, rappers Common, The Pharcyde, Souls Of Mischief and Schooly D, and hip-hop supergroup Diggin’ In The Crates featuring AG, Lord Finesse, OC and Roc Raida.

The festival is divided up into two days – the first being the Dance Alldayer which is split up into the Essential Flipside Arena, Big Beat Boutique Arena, Legends of the Dark Black Arena, the Pussycat Club Arena, World Dance Arena and Experiments Arena.

The second day is being billed as the Roots Alldayer, which is divided into the Essential Touch Arena, Roots Arena, Essential Hip-Hop Arena, Marcus Garvey Arena, Eclectic Arena and Zulu Warrior Arena.

Festival organiser Ish Ali told NME: “It gobsmacks me, the size of this bill. It’s a great line-up. The first day is obviously more dance-oriented but day two is a celebration of black music across the board from Talvin Singh to your hip-hop acts – R&B is getting very strong in this country now.”
