Norman Cook goes to Downing Street on behalf of his beloved Brighton & Hove Albion...

FATBOY SLIM visited DOWNING STREET yesterday (December 1) to hand over a 62,000 signature petition demanding a new football stadium for the DJ’s beloved BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION football team.

Slim – real name Norman Cook – went to Number 10 along with TV presenter Des Lynam and 30 other supporters to ask the Government to build a new 22,000-seater sports stadium in Falmer, just outside Brighton.

The team, nicknamed The Seagulls, have been forced to play at the 7,000 capacity Withdean Stadium since their Goldstone Ground was sold for redevelopment in 1997.

Cook told BBC News: “Just for us to have a home is the important thing – it will never be the Goldstone but it will be home.”

A verdict on the proposal is due to be announced shortly by Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, following the end of nine-month inquiry in October.

However, plans for the stadium have faced opposition from many residents of Falmer over environmental fears.
