Singer-songwriter performed the Nirvana track on US radio
Father John Misty has released a cover of Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box’.
As pointed out by Stereogum, the former Fleet Foxes member – real name Joshua Tillman – performed the song during a session for US radio station Sirius XMU and has now posted the recording via Soundcloud. Click below to listen.
The original ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ was released by Nirvana as a single in 1993 and appeared on their third and final studio album ‘In Utero’.
Earlier this week, Tillman’s label Sub Pop (who also released Nirvana’s debut album ‘Bleach’ in 1989) was forced to apologise after it emerged that the extra bonus features added to the deluxe edition of the 33-year-old’s new album actually caused the vinyl record to warp.
‘I Love You, Honeybear’ was released earlier this week (February 9) with a deluxe edition of the LP coming packaged in a ‘Dioramic, Meta-Musical Funtime gatefold jacket’. However, there have been various reports of the records being damaged upon purchase.
Sub Pop addressed the issue in a blog posted to their website, saying: “In short, the extra, bulging thickness of the pop-up art in the Father John Misty jacket creates a lump that, when the LPs are sealed and packed, pushes into the LPs, causing the vinyl to warp and making that handsome, painstakingly and expensively produced jacket an elaborate record-destroying device. This oversight, and any attendant suffering, is our fault, and we are very sorry. We promise to be less ambitious in the future.”
The label added: “We are currently making 100% non-warped, colored-vinyl LPs to replace these damaged LPs. We hope to have a delivery date for those soon, and we will update this page as soon as we have that information.”
Father John Misty will tour the UK and Ireland later this month.
