The 'European Glastonbury' makes a strong point...

ROSKILDE festival started in Denmark yesterday (July 1) amid political protest.

This year the festival, dubbed the European Glastonbury, has a 25ft high copy of the Israeli security fence built as a political protest, according to the BBC.

The replica was built by the charity Dan Church Aid with the inscription ‘Make Peace, Not Walls’, near the main stage. It is a protest against the security fence the Israelis erected between Israel and Palestianian Authority land.

Said a spokesman for the charity: “We have taken a political stand, but we are not opposed to the Israeli state. We have to react, because this wall entails serious humanitarian consequences for Palestinians whose land has been confiscated.”

Acts performing at Roskilde this weekend include Pixies, Slipknot and [a][/a].
