ELBOW have said they’ve got 35 songs for their third album – but they’re keeping them a closely guarded secret until later this year.

Speaking backstage at the V Festival, singer Guy Garvey hinted that some of the songs are inspired by girlfriend Edith Bowman.

He told NME.COM: “I don’t know how we’re going to top Glastonbury because it was so good. We’re on the same time as Dido so we’ll have some fun with that. We’re going to have some fun with Dido.

”We’ve got a stack of new stuff but we’ve not been playing it long enough to be comfortable with it yet. We’ve got about 35 ideas for the next album. We’re going to keep working on them until September. We’re working on them in Manchester in a converted mill.

”It’s a lot more uptempo. There’s one called ’Mexican Standoff’ that really rocks. There’s some glam numbers! Well, if you can imagine us doing glam! There’s a handful (of love songs). There’s still lots songs about insecurity, but just within a relationship.”

Elbow play the NME Stage at 7.15pm at Hylands Park in Chelmsford (August 21), before heading north for the second day at Weston Park in Stafford.
