The star spends three hours chatting to anyone and signing anything...
ANDREW WK has spent over three hours outside the NME Signing Tent writing autographs to avoid disappointing his fans.
Since leaving the Main Stage at lunchtime, the American rocker has been milling around backstage, chatting to fans and having his photograph taken. However, it has now become clear that it was just a warm-up for his appointment at the NME Signing Tent.
Scheduled to start at 6.30pm for half an hour, Andrew found that after his allotted time slot there were still hundreds of people wanting to meet him. To avoid disappointment, he then spent the next three hours taking time out to chat to each one individually and instead of just signing his name, wrote most of them a letter!
“If I identify something as the right thing to do and Ihave the chance to do it, then I will do it,” he said. “These are people who have put their time, energy and money not only in being here but to spend time with me. Nothing is more important than spending time with people who have spent time to see me. I would never disgrace them or disrepect them by abandoning them. I have done it for 10 hours for 12 hours before. If they have the time to wait for me, I have the time for them.”
Recenty in New Jersey Andrew decamped to a fan’s kitchen to continue writing autographs. He takes each fan’s email address to contact them at the end of each signing.
One fan told NME.COM: “Once the time was up I thought I’d missed my chance. But he’s been great, just chatting to us all. He wrote me a letter and signed my trainer! I’ve got pictures to show for it as well!”
At the time of going to press, there was no indication that he was planning on stopping.
