Well, a new play about the festival which is about to be unveiled in the UK...

NEW ORDER, OCEAN COLOUR SCENE THE ALABAMA THREE and UB40 are among the band who will feature when a new play about the GLASTONBURY festival tours the UK .

The play, scriptwrited by Zoe Lewis, directed by actor and Glasto regular Keith Allen and with set design by controversial artist Damien Hirst, tells the story of seven very different visitors to Glastonbury. The couples meet, part, take drugs and party, before the story spins to a bleak and dramatic conclusion.

The play will be performed in giant marquee that will be erected in turn in Brighton, Cardiff, Manchester and Birmingham, and the audience will pass through a series of sideshows, campfires and stalls before being entertained by a rotating line-up of bands, including the likes of New Order and UB40.

Tomorrow night (September 9) Lewis, Allen and Hirst will mark the start of a ‘pilot tour’ for the play with a party outside London’s Camden Roundhouse venue. Eventuall the trio hope to take the play back there for a London run.

Hirst has designed the set according to his friend and Fat Les bandmate Allen’s wish to recreate a festival atmosphere.

Allen said: “Damien has designed a set that will be like a corner of Glastonbury, with two revolving daisies in the middle. The audience will be able to lie down on cushions and drink and smoke.”
