THE SAMARITANS are braced for a flurry of calls from distressed fans of now-defunct boyband FIVE

– but won’t be setting up any special phonelines to cope with demand, NME.COM can reveal.

After NME.COM revealed yesterday (27 September) that the band had split, four members of Five


appeared on MTV to discuss the finer points of their disintegration, and fansites all over the world have had their messageboards deluged with postings from distraught fans. Five Online’s messageboards are a typical example. Where one fan writes: “I don’t know what to say… It doesn’t seem real”, another comments: “I know how you’re feelin’. I’m cryin’ all the time and I can’t stop… No words can say how bad I feel, [they’ll] be always in my heart and I’ll support [them] for the rest of my days.”

This morning a spokesperson for The Samaritans told NME.COM: “We don’t know how many people have been phoning about Five

because our service is completely confidential, so we don’t keep statistics like that. But Five

fans should know that we’re definitely here for anything that’s going on.” She added that stories of separate phonelines being set up in the wake of Take That

‘s split – five years ago – were “slightly apocryphal”, commenting that The Samaritans don’t set up lines for specific causes. “It’s often the case that instances like this trigger people phoning in, often because there are other things they need to talk about,” she added.
