Years And Years singer Olly Alexander has revealed how he embarrassed himself several times in front of FKA Twigs while the trio were recording their forthcoming debut album.
The band’s rehearsal studio in London is near to FKA Twigs’ management office, so Alexander often saw the singer. But his admiration of her album LP1 meant that Alexander was unable to say anything constructive.
Alexander told The Daily Star: “Every time I saw Twigs, I told her what a fan I am. By the fourth time, it was really embarrassing. It was like I was virtually stalking her, but she was really sweet about it.”
Years And Years are at No 1 this week with their single King, and Alexander also discussed working with songwriters Greg Kurstin and Rick Nowels on the as-yet-untitled debut album. He said: “It’s always good to pick other writers’ brains.”
The band start a US tour next week (March 20), before embarking on a UK tour in May. They also play the festivals Common People, Wild Life, T In The Park, Latitude and Reading And Leeds.
Years And Years will play:
