The artist says that she was in a 'fruit bowl of pain'.
FKA Twigs has opened up about a procedure that she underwent to remove six fibroid tumours from her uterus.
The 30-year-old artist – real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett – has revealed that she had surgery in December last year. Giving details of her health issue on Instagram, the singer said that her “confidence as a woman was knocked” and that she “felt really alone”. Check out the full message below.
The lengthy post begins: “I am a very private person as u all know and I have gone back and forth in my mind whether to share that this year I have been recovering from laparoscopic surgery to remove 6 fibroid tumours from my uterus.”
Barnett goes on to describe the tumours as “pretty huge”, comparing their size to “two cooking apples, three kiwis and a couple of [strawberries]”.
She says she was left in a “fruit bowl of pain every day” as a result.
“I tried to be brave but it was excruciating at times and to be honest I started to doubt if my body would ever feel the same again,” the post continues.
“I had surgery in December and I was so scared, despite lots of love from friends and family I felt really alone and my confidence as a woman was knocked.”
Twigs then says that she now feels like her “strong self again”, describing her good health as “magical”.
“Thank you precious body for healing, thank you for reminding me to be kind to myself, you are a wonderful thing, now go create and be other once again.”
Reaching out to other women who suffer from the condition, the singer adds that she “just wanted to say after my experience that you are amazing warriors and that you are not alone. you can get through this”.
“And with this I let go of the pain … love always twigs,” the post concludes.
Earlier this year, FKA Twigs featured in an advert for Apple. It was directed by Spike Jonze and featured the Anderson .Paak track ‘Til It’s Over’.
