Flaming Lips to headline Earth Day in Washington DC

Free gig will take place this Sunday (April 19)

The Flaming Lips are set to headline a show to celebrate Earth Day this Sunday (April 19) in Washington DC.

The band will perform with moe, Los Lobos and more on The National Mall in partnership with Green Apple Festival Day, and the entire event is free.

The event will be emceed by actor Chevy Chase and will also feature performances by DJ Spooky, the Howard University Drummers and the Joy of Motion Dance Center‘s teen hip hop company, Urban Impact.

The theme of the day is the Green Generation – a campaign including renewable energy, green jobs and a new green economy.

Over 200,000 attended events in eight cities last year. Sunday will see events take place in 10 cities

The Flaming Lips will also play a handful of dates in the following cities:

Nashville, TN Vanderbilt University Alumni Lawn (April 18)
Phoenix, AZ McDowell Mt. Music Festival/Westworld (25)
Chicago, IL Union Park (July 19)
Monticello, NY ATP Fest/Kutsher’s Country Club (September 13)
