Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold has debuted a new solo track while opening for Joanna Newsom on tour.

Pecknold has taken a break from music over the past few years, returning to his studies at university. Fleet Foxes’ last album ‘Helplessness Blues’ was released in 2011.

Now footage has emerged of Pecknold performing what appears to be new material at a gig in Nijmegen in the Netherlands on February 28. It is not known whether it is a Fleet Foxes song or solo track. Watch below.

Pecknold will conclude his tour with Newsom in early April. In December, Pecknold returned to release a cover of ‘Out of Sight, Out of Mind’ by The Five Keys.

Writing in a statement to fans in 2014, Pecknold accounted for his band’s lack of activity since 2011’s ‘Helplessness Blues’.

Pecknold wrote: “For anyone who’s curious, this is a short Fleet Foxes update – been a while! So, after the last round of touring, I decided to go back to school. I never got an undergraduate degree, and this felt like the right time to both see what that was about and to try something new after a while in the touring / recording lifestyle. I moved to New York and enrolled at Columbia, and I’ve mostly been doing that, but I’m working on songs and excited for whatever happens next musically, even if it’s down the line. Hope all is well out there.”
