Florence Welch: ‘You should never do two encores’

'Ceremonials' singer says she is not a fan of dragging out the end of live gigs

Florence And The Machine‘s Florence Welch has said that she believes artists should never do more than one encore when they play live.

The singer, who is currently promoting her band’s new album ‘Ceremonials’, which was released on October 31, has said that though she believes her band is one of those who suit doing encores, one is quite enough.

Asked about how many encores she thought bands should do during their live shows, she told the Sydney Morning Herald: “I don’t think you should do two. One is OK, but two, no way. I think I wouldn’t do an encore if it wasn’t your own show. I think an encore is perfectly acceptable, but I find it so weird when people do two or three.”

She went on to say that she believed encores were better suited to artists who were “inclined toward dramatic gestures” and that her band definitely fell into that category.

She added: “I quite like the drama of an encore. I think an encore is for those artists who are inclined to do dramatic gestures, and I certainly would say I am inclined towards them.”
