Florence + The Machine frontwoman reveals she broke her foot at Coachella

Florence Welch says her shows will be 'stripped back' until the injury heals

Florence + The Machine frontwoman Florence Welch has revealed she broke her foot performing at Coachella on Sunday (April 12).

Writing on Facebook, Welch explained to fans that she sustained the injury when leaping off the stage at the festival in California, posting a picture of her x-ray. She went on to state that until her injury heals, her performances will have to be “stripped back”. See the full statement below:

“Hi everyone, I’m so sorry to say, that after what was one of my favourite shows ever at Coachella, I have discovered I have broken my foot from leaping off the stage. Unfortunately while this heals, my performances will have to be somewhat stripped back. I’m so sorry, I’m pretty devastated, but I still want to do the shows. I understand this is not what you were expecting, but I hope its just as enjoyable. I’m going to try and make it super special for you. By the time Glastonbury rolls around I should be back on my feet. This album was so much about making something from what was broken, so lets see what we can do with this. All my love, Florence.”

Welch is due to play the second weekend of Coachella on Sunday (April 19) as well as BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Norwich this May. Her third album, ‘How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful’ is out on June 1.

Earlier today it was revealed that Florence + The Machine will be playing this year’s Glastonbury Festival, which will run from June 24-28 at Worthy Farm. However, the final headliner – who will join previously announced bill toppers Foo Fighters and Kanye West – is yet to be announced. For an up to date line-up, click here.
