Florence And The Machine drummer almost misses gig after getting stuck in toilet

Chris Hayden is rescued just before the band were due onstage for a live Radio 2 gig

Florence And The Machine drummer Chris Hayden nearly missed the group’s BBC Radio 2 In Concert gig after getting trapped in a toilet.

Hayden had nipped to the loo, before the band’s performance at the Rivoli Ballroom in London on Thursday (November 8) , when he found himself stuck in a cubicle and had to be rescued by the venue’s staff, reports The Scotsman.

His knight in shining armour had to remove a door to get him out of his cubicle cell, before he joined the rest of the group to perform on presenter Jo Whiley’s Radio 2 show.

“I didn’t know whether to say it on stage because I didn’t want to embarrass him, but he got trapped in the loo. He was screaming,” said singer Florence Welch.

She added: “He got really freaked out. We could hear him trying to bash the door down, and they had to take the door off its hinges, so my Dad did offer to stand in. But he did escape.”

Florence And The Machine set out on a UK and Ireland arena tour next month. The tour begins at Exeter Westpoint Arena on December 4 and runs until December 12, when the band play Dublin O2 Arena. The trek also includes gigs at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena, Liverpool Echo Arena and Aberdeen’s AECC.
