Flowered Up frontman Liam Maher dies

Former NME cover star passes away

Liam Maher, the frontman of Flowered Up, has died.

Little is known at this point about the singer’s death, but the band’s record label have confirmed the news.

Maher fronted the baggy band Flowered Up in the early ’90s. For many they were considered London‘s equivalent to northern bands like Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets.

Flowered Up were best known for their Top 20 single ‘Weekender’, the 12-minute, 55-second track being their highest charting single.

They released their only album ‘A Life With Brian’ in 1991 and also appeared on the cover of NME before splitting in 1994.

After the band, Maher signed up to Alan McGee‘s Poptones record label in 2001, but the deal fell through before anything was released.

More details about Maher‘s death are due to be released later today (October 21).
