Band give fans chance to hear 'What Went Down' days in advance
Foals are giving away free cassette tapes of their new album ‘What Went Down’ ahead of its release on Friday (August 28).
‘What Went Down’ is the band’s fourth full-length, following on from 2013’s ‘Holy Fire’. It was recorded in the south of France with Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons, Mumford & Sons).
Ahead of its release this week, the Oxford-based outfit have launched a global treasure hunt of sorts, hiding cassette copies of the album at numerous locations worldwide and sharing the coordinates via social media.
The band have asked fans to share photos of the tapes once found, also urging them not to upload the contents of the cassettes to the internet.
Items have so far been placed in Madrid, Paris, Oslo, Amsterdam, Berlin and Hamburg. See photos below.
Foals’ new album includes the single ‘Mountain At My Gates’ and title track ‘What Went Down’. Speaking to NME recently, Philippakis described the LP as “lean” and “punchy”.
Foals recently announced plans for a UK club tour. They will play dates in Nottingham, Liverpool, Norwich, Cardiff, Aberdeen, Newcastle, Southampton, Margate, Bristol and Cambridge.
The Margate show will take place at the relaunched Dreamland theme park as part of new festival By The Sea.
