Foals tease virtual reality video for ‘Mountain At My Gates’

Nabil returns as director for GoPro filmed video

Foals have teased their upcoming video for ‘Mountain At My Gates’. The band unveiled the new single last week (July 20) on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show.

The ‘virtual reality music video’ is filmed on a GoPro and was directed by Nabil. It features airborne footage of a city surrounded by mountains, intercut with live performance. Click below to watch.

‘Mountain At My Gates’ is the second single from upcoming album ‘What Went Down’, due for release on August 28. Nabil, who has also directed videos for Frank Ocean and Kanye West, was behind the videos for two singles from previous Foals album ‘Holy Fire’, ‘Bad Habit’ and ‘Late Night’.

Speaking to NME about the track, frontman Yannis Phillipakis said “I’d recorded the beginning riff on my phone ages ago. At the beginning it had a baggy feel, but became less so with more work. The central image – ‘I see a mountain at my gates’ was from me getting more interested in seeing what would come out lyrically where there wasn’t a pre-conceived idea. Normally I write voraciously in books and journals, then harvest a lot of that for the record. This, though, came out instantaneously in the room.”

The LP was recorded in the south of France with Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons, Mumford & Sons).
