Tickets for Foo Fighters‘ London comeback gig have sold out in a matter of hours.

The band will make their return to the UK at the closing concert for the Invictus Games on September 14. Tickets went on sale at 9am this morning, but have now all been sold.

The Invictus Games takes place at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and sees Dave Grohl and co top a line-up that also includes Kaiser Chiefs, Ellie Goulding, Ryan Adams, The Vamps, Rizzle Kicks, James Blunt, Diversity and Military Wives Choir. The 26,000-capacity outdoor concert will take place on the south lawn of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from 5pm to 10pm and highlights will be broadcast by the BBC.

Foo Fighters have performed sporadically since a New York gig in September 2012 at which Grohl told the crowd: “Without making a big deal out of it, we don’t have any shows after this. This is it, man. Honestly I don’t know when we’re gonna do it again.” Recent shows include sets at New Orleans’ Preservation Hall and Washington DC’s 9.30 Club.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Foo Fighters have finished work on their new album.

Producer Butch Vig, who worked with Dave Grohl on Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ and is also a member of Garbage, tweeted on Wednesday (July 30) to announce the news. “We are officially done with the new Foo Fighters album. 23 straight days mixing! IT’S EPIC!!!” he wrote.

The new album was recorded in eight different studios in eight states across America. It will be accompanied by mini-series Sonic Highways, broadcast on HBO, which will document the recording progress. Dave Grohl will operate as director on the project, following his Sound City documentary of 2013.
