Foo Fighters announce September live date at London’s Olympic Park

Band will headline Invictus Games Closing Party with Kaiser Chiefs, Ellie Goulding, Ryan Adams and more

Foo Fighters are to return to the UK stage at the closing concert for the Invictus Games.

The event takes place at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on September 14, and sees Dave Grohl and co top a line-up including Kaiser Chiefs, Ellie Goulding, Ryan Adams, The Vamps, Rizzle Kicks, James Blunt, Diversity and Military Wives Choirs. The 26,000-capacity outdoor concert will take place on the south lawn of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from 5pm to 10pm and highlights will be broadcast by the BBC.

The Invictus Games are a new international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.

A statement from the band reads: “Invictus Games, look out… THE FOO FIGHTERS ARE COMING. What a perfect way to finally return to the UK for the first time in years… been waaaay too long! Thanks for having us, it is truly an honor to come play for these incredible men and women. Can’t wait to do our thing.”

Foo Fighters have performed sporadically since a New York gig in September 2012 at which Grohl told the crowd: “Without making a big deal out of it, we don’t have any shows after this. This is it, man. Honestly I don’t know when we’re gonna do it again.” Recent shows include sets at New Orleans’ Preservation Hall and Washington DC’s 9.30 Club.

The band’s as-yet untitled album is due for release in November, shortly after the broadcast of an eight-part HBO series Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways.

Tickets for the Invictus Games closing concert go on sale at 9am on Friday morning (August 1) priced £49.
