Frank Ocean on course to score his first UK Number One album with ‘Blonde’

Rapper's eagerly anticipated LP was finally released over the weekend

Frank Ocean is set to score his first UK Number One album with ‘Blonde’.

The rapper finally released his second studio LP over the weekend and it is already over 4,000 combined sales ahead of Dolly Parton‘s ‘Pure & Simple’, which is at Number Two, according to midweek chart figures.

‘Blonde’ – also stylised as ‘Blond’ – follows on from the R&B singer’s critically-acclaimed 2012 record ‘Channel Orange’

“I had the time of my life making all of this. Thank you all,” Ocean wrote on Tumblr following the album’s release. “Especially those of you who never let me forget I had to finish. Which is basically every one of ya’ll. Haha. Love you,” he added.

It comes after Kanye West recently hailed the new record, declaring that he was listening to Ocean’s LP “on repeat”.

Ocean and West have worked together on numerous occasions. Most recently, Ocean was given his own track on West’s ‘The Life Of Pablo’ album, aptly titled ‘Frank’s Track’.

Meanwhile, recent NME cover star Ricky Gervais is course for the Number Three spot in the UK album chart with the soundtrack for his new film ‘David Brent: Life On The Road’.

In the singles chart, Major Lazer is on course for another UK Number One with his collaboration with DJ Snake ‘Let Me Love You’, which also features Justin Bieber. Lazer’s recent chart topper ‘Cold Water’ is still sitting at the summit but ‘Let Me Love You’ is a mere 167 combined chart sales behind at Number Two at the midweek stage.
