Frank Pucci, frontman of death metal band Necrophagia, found dead at 48

'Killjoy' founded the band in 1983

Frank ‘Killjoy’ Pucci, frontman of pioneering death metal band Necrophagia, has died aged 48.

The news was announced via the band’s Facebook page earlier today (March 19), with the group writing: “We are so shocked and saddened to bring you the news of our dear brother Killjoy passing away this morning. We are at a loss for words. R.I.P brother you are forever in our hearts. We will cherish our moments together forever.”

Necrophagia – named after the act of cannibalising a corpse – were formed in Ohio in 1983 by Killjoy. Their debut album ‘Seasons Of The Dead’ was later released in 1987, before they subsequently split. They are often credited with pioneering the death metal genre.

At the behest of Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo, Necrophagia reunited in the early 1990s. Most recently, the band released the ‘WhiteWorm Cathedral’ LP in 2014. Killjoy was the last remaining original member of Necrophagia.
