Frank Turner has revealed more details about his new side-project, promising that it will be more “depraved” than his solo career.
The singer, who was formerly the frontman in hardcore band Million Dead, says his new band will take in more extreme material and will also feature a track he’s written about Natalie Portman.
Speaking in a video, which you can watch above, Turner says: “It’s me, it’s Ben [Dawson] who played me in Million Dead and Matt [Nadir] who plays in the Sleeping Souls, my backing band. Musically it’s taking cues from bands like Jesus Lizard, Hot Snakes, Mclusky.”
He continues: “Lyrically it’s very different from what I do now, it’s kind of depraved. The first song we wrote is about Natalie Portman’s tapeworm using her as a glove puppet to lead an uprising in Hollywood. We’re writing a whole pile of new songs and we’re going to do some live dates soon.”
Turner also confirmed that he is working on more solo material, adding: “I’ve been working towards a new album and writing songs like crazy. In fact way too many songs, we demoed 19 the other day and there’s another four hanging around.”
He added: “That’s way too many songs for an album, which is a good problem to have. We’re cooking with gas right now and we’re going to record in October and get the record out at the start of next year.”
Turner also spoke about his plans to release a DVD of his recent Wembley Arena show, saying: “It’ll be out by the end of the summer. It’s the complete set. There’s also a tour documentary film which my friend Greg Nolan made and lots of other little things.”
Frank Turner will play next month’s V Festival as well as the Strummer Of Love and Beautiful Days festivals.
