SAM & MARK TOP CHART

Franz Ferdinand score huge album hit...

Pop Idol runners-up Sam and Mark repeat the success of this year’s winner Michelle McManus by today (February 15) scoring a number one with their first single.

The pair go straight to the top of the UK single charts with their cover of the The Beatles ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’. Meanwhile, NME Award winners Franz Ferdinand continue to angle for the position of Britain’s best new band charting at number three with their debut self-titled album.

Back on the single charts, former Boyzone frontman takes a bow at number two with ‘She Believes (In Me)’, two ahead of veterans Stereophonics who enter at five with ‘Moviestar’. Heavyweight US rap-pop star Fatman Scoop scores the only other entry on the top 10 at nine with ‘It Takes Scoop’.

Old school DJ Ferry Corsten narrowly misses the top 10, entering at 11 with ‘Rock Your Body Rock’ one ahead of Speedway at 12 with ‘Can’t Turn Back’. The Strokes enter at a relatively low 17 with ‘Reptilia’ and UD Project score the final new entry on the top 20 at 19 with ‘Saturday Night’.

There is quite a lot of movement further down the chart. Jagged Edge enter at 21 with ‘Walked Outta Heaven’, The Stands go in at 25 with the Las-inflected ‘Here She Comes Again’ and Poppyfields go in at 28 with ‘45RPM’. Chingy

Norah Jones returns to the summit of the album charts entering at one with ‘Feels Like Home’. Aside from Franz Ferdinand, other album new entries come this week from former Spice Girl Emma Bunton at seven with ‘Free Me’ and Tears For Fears with their greatest hits at nine.
