Don't worry, it's extremely tasteful - the band have become newspaper editors...

Franz Ferdinand have become editors of a national newspaper for a day.

The Scots stars today (April 19) fulfill their latest ambition – to get behind the controls of The Guardian’s arts supplement, G2.

Alex Kapranos, Nick McCarthy, Bob Hardy and Paul Thompson are the first in a week of guest editors on G2, which begins today (Monday April 19).

Among the articles chosen by the band is an alternative to the tabloids’ traditional topless page three – a Wolfgang Tillmans portrait of a male and female naked from the waist down.

Music is also served well with a feature by Nick Kent on rock’s casualties, a piece by Kapranos himself on classroom music lessons, an article on Greek blues and one on why Busted and Blue are so dull.

“We should do our CV. We’ve DJed on Radio 1, we’re editing The Guardian’s G2 supplement and we’re supporting Morrissey. It’s incredible,” Thompson told NME last month.

The band’s third single, ‘Matinee’, is released today and is expected to go Top Ten. See this week’s NME for an exclusive on the road feature.
