DUKE ROCKS!

Glasgow goes mad for their new heroes...

Franz Ferdinand celebrated the start of their 18-date UK tour with a triumphant sell-out hometown show at GLASGOW QMU last night (April 12).

It was the first of a two-night sold-out stint at the venue, and flushed with success at having topped the NME Chart on Sunday (April 11) with their new single ’Matinee’ – and looking likely to enjoy a similarly buoyant chart placing in the UK charts this week with the single, the band played a short, sharp hour-long set for 800 rabid fans.

The gig, which was also broadcast on Lamacq Live on Radio 1, kicked off with ‘Jacqueline’, with the crowd bouncing along from start to finish of the set and Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy pulling duel-guitar poses throughout. The entire band wore amazed expressions and looked genuinely blown away by the crowd’s reaction.

At one point, a bra was thrown on stage, which a grinning Alex held up and tried for size.

The set-list ran:

‘Truck Stop’
