Freddie Gibbs has been charged with sexual assault in Austria.
The rapper was extradited to the country in June after being arrested in France. The charges date back to 2015 when he is alleged to have assaulted a woman in Vienna while he was on tour.
According to Reuters, a spokesman for Vienna’s criminal court said: “He is alleged to have administered knock-out drops to a woman and then have abused her sexually while she was in a defenseless state.”
The rapper has been charged with “sexual abuse of a defenceless or psychologically impaired person”. Gibbs faces a maximum of 10 years in prison if found guilty.
His lawyer, however, is maintaining the rapper’s innocence. “While Freddie Gibbs was charged with an offense today, it remains only an allegation, and it does not in any way change the actual facts that Freddie Gibbs is 100% innocent,” Theodore Simon said in a statement.
Gibbs will remain in custody in Vienna.
