Freddie Gibbs has been arrested in France on an alleged rape charge.
As reported by French website La Depeche, the 33-year-old rapper was taken into custody shortly before his gig at Le Rex in Toulouse, in connection with a rape that allegedly took place in Austria in 2015, for which an extradition request has been put out to get Gibbs back there.
Gibbs’s management has denied the accusations, calling them “trumped up charges”, according to Complex, and confirming that they will be fighting the extradition request.
In a statement acquired by Billboard, Gibbs’s lawyer Scott Leemon has said: “Freddie Gibbs adamantly denies the allegations that have been levied against by Austrian authorities.”
Leemon continued: “It makes you wonder why it took almost a year for Austrian officials to bring these charges.”
At the time of writing, Gibbs is still scheduled to meet the remaining dates on his tour, which includes a show in London. The full dates are as follows:
June 5 – Village Underground, London, UK
June 7 – L’Affranchi, Marseille, France
June 8 – La Laiterie, Strasbourg, France
June 10 – Primavera Sound, Porto, Portugal
June 17 – Adelaide Hall, Toronto, Canada
