Mark Ronson, Kids In Glass Houses, Katy B are also on the bill for the special shows
The gigs, which are in association with Coca-Cola, will take place in Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham and London during the summer. All the shows will be free, except for London where tickets will cost £15.
The free gigs begin at Cardiff’s Cooper’s Field on May 25 with a bill that includes You Me At Six, Emeli Sande and Kids In Glass Houses.
Speaking to NME about the shows, Kids In Glass Houses singer Aled Phillips said: “It’s a big honour for any band to be part of such a massive event. We’ve grown up with Olympics, it was always on telly and I figured as I’m not going to be able to run the 100 metres, I may as well turn up and sing.”
The gigs then move on to Glasgow’s George Square, with a bill that includes Emeli Sande, Eliza Doolittle and General Fiasco. Things then head to Leeds’ Newsam Park, where Friendly Fires top a bill that also features Tribes and Little Comets.
Speaking to NME about their gig, Friendly Fires drummer Jack Savidge said: “It’s a special thing to be involved in the Olympics in some way. We’ve always had great gigs in Leeds, we’re going to spend a lot of time in fields this summer. By the time these gigs roll around we’ll be a well oiled machine.”
There will then be a gig at Birmingham’s Cannon Hill Park on June 30, with a line-up that’s yet to be announced. After this, the run of shows end with a grand finale at London’s Hyde Park on July 26.
The bill for this show features a headline slot from Dizzee Rascal, with The Wanted, Mark Ronson, Katy B, Eliza Doolittle, You Me At Six, Rizzle Kicks, Wretch 32, Morning Parade, Loick Essien and Little Comets also on the bill.
There will also be 61 shows taking place in every place the Olympic torch will visit. Artists set to play these shows include Emeli Sandé, General Fiasco, Katy B, Kids In Glass Houses, Labrinth, Little Comets, Loick Essien, Morning Parade, Rizzle Kicks, Tribes, The Wombats, Wretch 32 and Young Guns.
