FRITZ announces new album ‘Pastel’, shares new single

The Newcastle songwriter's second album will arrive next month

Newcastle’s FRITZ has announced her second album ‘Pastel’ will arrive next month. The nine-track follow up to her self-titled 2017 debut is out February 12 via Inertia.

To coincide with the announcement, FRITZ – real name Tilly Murphy – has shared new single ‘Die Happily’. It’s a dreamy, reverb-soaked shoegaze cut about everlasting platonic love that pairs lush, distorted guitars with Murphy’s sugary croon.

“Die Happily is about wanting to be around a best friend forever and treasuring every moment spent with them,” Murphy explained in a statement.

“I think the phrase “die happily” isn’t used enough… I think its very powerful and perfectly sums up the way I felt when I was living these moments with my friends.”

‘Die Happily’ arrives after a handful of singles from ‘Pastel’ over the past couple of years –most recently ‘Arrow’ back in 2020.

‘Pastel’ was recorded over the last two years with fellow Novocastrian producer Fraser Marshall, who has previously worked with the likes of RAAVE TAPES and Split Feed.

Thematically, Murphy says it’s an album that examines the growing pains that come with adolescence.

“I started writing this album 3 years ago. It reflects my growth musically and personally over the past three years. It’s a body of work that truly represents my becoming of a young adult from a teenager.”
