WILL YOUNG and GARETH GATES remain at Number One in the UK singles chart tonight (Sunday, October 6) with the double A-side ‘The Long & Winding Road’ and ‘Suspicious Minds’.

The duo from the Pop Idol TV show are at the top for a second week, after holding off ‘Down Boy’ by Holly Valance which is the highest new entry at Number Two. Avril Lavigne’s ‘Complicated’ is a non-mover at 3, while ‘Down 4 U’ by Irv Gotti featuring Ja Rule and Ashanti is new at 4.

The strangest new entry is at 9 this week, with veteran singer John Otway earning a rare chart appearance with ‘Bunsen Burner’. Fans co-ordinated a successful campaign to ensure that the single charted as a 50th birthday present for the singer.

Elsewhere, Leann Rimes is new at 11 with ‘Life Goes On’, Feeder debut at 14 with ‘Come Back Around’, Ian Van Dahl’s ‘Try’ enters at 15, Dirty Vegas have a new entry at 16 with ‘Days Go By’ and No Doubt make the Top 20 with ‘Underneath It All’ at 18.

Also on today’s chart, Wildhearts are back in the Top 40 with ‘Vanilla Radio’ at 26, JJ72 return with ‘Formulae’ at 28 and The Libertines debut at 29 with ‘Up The Bracket’.

In the albums chart, Elvis is too strong for the Rolling Stones – ‘Elv1s – 30 Number 1 Hits’ stays at the top, while the Stones collection ‘Forty Licks’ is the highest new entry at 2. Mark Knopfler’s ‘The Ragpicker’s Dream’ enters at 7, followed by Supergrass’ ‘Life On Other Planets’ at 9.

But there are disappointing performances by Suede and Oxide & Neutrino. Suede’s ‘A New Morning’ enters at 24, while Oxide & Neutrino’s ‘2 Stepz Ahead’ can only manage number 28.
