‘The Voice’ winner Leanne Mitchell’s debut single fails to make the Top 40

Singer flops as Gary Barlow celebrates a double UK Number One bonanza

Leanne Mitchell, winner of BBC One’s reality singing show The Voice, saw her debut single miss the Top 40 completely yesterday (June 10).

‘Run To You’, which the singer performed as she won the show on June 2, fell from its midweek placing of Number 27 to end up charting at lowly Number 45, reports the Official Charts Company.

Part of the explanation being given for the poor performance of ‘Run To You’ is that the track hasn’t officially been released as a ‘Winner’s Single’ and is only available to buy on digital download.

Meanwhile in the charts themselves, Take That mainman Gary Barlow and his Commonwealth Band took both the Number One single and album as expected.

Ed Sheeran’s performance at the Jubilee concert saw him rise back up to Number Two in the album charts with ‘+’, with Paloma Faith at Number Three, Bee Gees at Number Four and Coldplay at Number Five. Emeli Sande, Jessie J, Rihanna, Rumer and Paul Simon make up the rest of the Top 10.

For the first time in well over a year, Adele’s ’21’ is outside the Top 10, sitting at Number 12, just ahead of Dexys, Beach Boys and Neil Young & Crazy Horse’s new effort ‘Americana’, which are Numbers 13, 15 and 16 respectively.

In the singles chart, Flo Rida is new at Number Two with ‘Whistle, which is just ahead of Fun’s ‘We Are Young’ and Rudimental’s ‘Feel The Love’, which are at Number Three and Number Four. Usher, DJ Fresh, Alex Clare, Carly Rae Jepsen, Coldplay/Rihanna and Rihanna make up the rest of the Top 10.
