GENE have parted company with label Polydor, though they have denied that they have been dropped because of poor album sales, claiming that the parting is by mutual agreement.
“For the past 18 months conflicting visions of what Gene are and potentially could be have created an unworkable environment. Only when we got to Gretna Green did we realise that Polydor had disembarked at Crewe. Now we have the chance to find out what we are really capable of,” Martin Rossiter said in a statement yesterday.
The band are currently working on material for their fourth album – which may be released independently – and will play with Ocean Colour Scene at MTV’s Five Night Stand at London Shepherd’s Bush Empire on May 12 as well as playing Reading and Leeds 99 on August 27 and 28.
