Gerard Way: ‘Now is not the time to play My Chemical Romance songs’ – watch

Frontman admits he will not rely on old material during debut solo shows

Gerard Way has said he will not play any My Chemical Romance songs at Reading & Leeds Festivals this weekend.

The former My Chemical Romance frontman will play his first ever solo shows in the UK this week, kicking off with an intimate gig in Portsmouth tonight (August 20).

Speaking to NME in a video interview you can watch in full above, he explained the decision saying: “There was a moment when I was weighing up the options but it just doesn’t feel like the right time yet. I didn’t feel this strong urge to do it.”

Way says it is unlikely he will fall on his back catalogue either. “I also wouldn’t want to false advertise, I don’t think it’s the sort of thing I’m going to be doing a lot. If it does happen in the future it will be because it’s the right thing to do.”
